Intellectual Property

Journal of Asian Orientation in Theology aims to maintain high standards of intellectual property protection and ethical publishing practices. This policy outlines the journal’s guidelines on copyright, publishing licenses, publication costs, prepublication considerations, plagiarism, redundant or overlapping publication, and conflicts of interest. The journal follows the Core Practices outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Copyright and Publishing Licenses

Authors who submit their work to the Journal of Asian Orientation in Theology retain copyright of their articles while granting the journal the right to publish, reproduce, and distribute the articles under the journal’s designated publishing license. The applicable Creative Commons license and its terms will be stated on the journal’s official website and in the published articles. Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights and permissions for any third-party material included in their manuscripts.

Publication Costs

Journal of Asian Orientation in Theology follows an open-access publishing model intended to provide readers with unrestricted access to its scholarly content. Information regarding publication fees, article processing charges, and any other applicable costs will be provided on the journal’s official website. Authors should consult the journal’s publication fee information before submitting their manuscripts.

Prepublication Considerations

Journal of Asian Orientation in Theology generally considers manuscripts that have not been formally published elsewhere. Authors must disclose any prior dissemination of their work, including preprints, conference papers, institutional repository deposits, or other publicly accessible versions.

Prior presentation at academic conferences or posting a manuscript on a recognized preprint server does not necessarily disqualify a submission, provided that the prior dissemination is disclosed, does not constitute duplicate formal publication, and complies with the journal’s submission requirements. Authors should inform the editorial team of any related publications or versions of the manuscript.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism in any form is prohibited by the Journal of Asian Orientation in Theology. Authors must ensure that their submissions constitute original scholarly work and that ideas, quotations, data, and other materials obtained from external sources are appropriately acknowledged and cited.

The editorial team may use plagiarism-detection software to identify potential plagiarism and substantial textual overlap. Similarity reports will be assessed in context, taking into account legitimate quotations, references, common terminology, and other relevant factors. Manuscripts containing substantial unattributed overlap or other evidence of plagiarism may be rejected or subjected to further investigation in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics procedures.

Redundant or Overlapping Publication

Journal of Asian Orientation in Theology does not accept manuscripts that substantially duplicate previously published work without appropriate disclosure and justification. Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Manuscripts that have already been published or accepted for publication elsewhere are generally ineligible for consideration unless an explicitly permitted exception applies and has been approved by the editorial team.

Authors must disclose any manuscripts, publications, conference papers, or other works that overlap substantially with their submissions. Republishing previously published material without appropriate acknowledgment, permission where required, and a legitimate scholarly justification may constitute redundant publication or a breach of publication ethics.

Conflicts of Interest Disclosure

Authors must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, their research, analysis, interpretation, or presentation of findings. Such conflicts may include financial interests, institutional affiliations, professional relationships, personal relationships, or other relevant interests.

Journal of Asian Orientation in Theology is committed to transparency in the disclosure and management of competing interests. Disclosures will be assessed by the editorial team, and appropriate measures will be taken when necessary to protect the integrity and impartiality of the publication process.

Review of the Policy

Journal of Asian Orientation in Theology will periodically review and update this policy to ensure its continued alignment with applicable copyright requirements, intellectual property standards, and best practices in scholarly publishing ethics. Any revisions will be communicated to authors and made publicly available on the journal’s official website.
