PELATIHAN PRESENTASI ILMIAH DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS BERBASIS KEBUTUHAN PROFESI PEMBELAJAR

Abstract


This article is a community service report involving students, lecturers, and professionals of various fields as participants to develop their public speaking skill to use in both academic and non-academic contexts. Such a skill is deemed necessary to enable them to partake and contribute more in the global conversation via their own respective expertise. The participants attend class sessions on “Seminar Presentation” two hours per week for one semester. Need analysis, contextual, and participant-oriented are characteristic of this program using as it does varied tailored topics and teaching materials. The outcomes of this community service include (1) enhancement of professionalism, (2) more frequent use of English, and (3) expansion of knowledge due to the diverse materials used. In the end, not only do the participants improve their speaking ability, they also show concerns and empathy towards todays’ world problem. As proven from their choice of topics in the last sessions, they would like to use their specific knowledge and competence to help solve the problems.
