Abstract

ABSTRACT

Translating song lyrics requires a special method because there are several limitations that a translator must pay attention to. Some things that must be considered by a translator in the process of translating song lyrics are maintaining the rhythm and the number of syllables and beats in each line of the lyrics. The method of translating poetry which emphasizes more on external factors can be used to overcome this problem, however this can cause other problems, including meaning equivalence. By using one of popular Indonesian songs, entitled “Pura-pura Lupa”, which is translated into “Pretend to Forget”, this paper intends to discuss the impact of the method of translating song lyrics on the meaning of the translation of the song lyrics. Genre Tranlation is applied in doing the analysis.

Keywords: meaning equivalence, translating song lyrics, “Pura-Pura Lupa”, “Pretend to Forget”
