Abstract

Impoliteness markers of a language in the educational sector can be divided into two, namely the linguistic and pragmatic markers. Impoliteness markers can be identified from each category and sub-category of impolite utterances. Linguistic impoliteness markers can be characterized by their segmental aspects, such as choice of words and style. In addition, the suprasegmental aspects of politeness might include stress, intonation, and duration. Whereas pragmatic impoliteness markers can be in the form of situational context and spasio-temporal context. Further, the situational context might include speakers, speech partner, purpose of speech, and atmosphere of speech. The spatio-temporal context might include two things, namely aspects of time and place of the occurrence of speech.

Keywords: Impoliteness, Linguistic impoliteness markers, Pragmatic impoliteness markers, Situational context, Spatio-temporal context.
