Abstract

ABSTRACT

This article critically examines the Catholic Church’s doctrine on homosexuality in dialogue with developments in modern science. Starting from the awareness that Church doctrine unfolds within history, the article explores the tension between traditional moral formulations and contemporary scientific findings on human sexual orientation. The research employs a historical–theological analysis with an interdisciplinary approach, particularly engaging psychology, biology, and genetic, as well as a hermeneutical reading of the Church’s Magisterium. The study finds that some anthropological assumptions underlying traditional moral doctrine are no longer fully aligned with current scientific knowledge, especially in understanding the origins of sexual orientation and the moral responsibility of the subject. The article proposes the framework of the Development of Doctrine as a theological pathway for reformulating the Church’s moral language and approach without undermining the continuity of faith. In this way, dialogue between doctrine and science is not understood as a threat, but as an opportunity to present Church teaching that is more humane, relational, and pastorally relevant.

ABSTRAKSI
