Abstract
Nowadays the existing problems in solar energy water distillation is the low efficiency that can be generated. One factor that greatly affects the efficiency is vapor concentrations excess in distillation equipment during the process of water evaporation. The use of passive condenser is one of the effective and efficient way to overcome the problem of the vapor concentration excess. One of the factors that affect the efficiency of a passive condenser is the condenser position. Study of the efficiency influence of condenser with position in front of the distillation equipment has not been done.
This study aimed to analyze the influence of efficiency on distillation equipment with condenser position in front of the equipment and to analyze the relative efficiency between a conventional distillation apparatus with distillation using passive condenser. Research equipment consists of three configuration of distillation equipment i.e. distillation equipment without passive condenser, distillation using passive condenser in front and behind of the distillation equipment. The variables recorded were water temperature (TW), the cover glass temperature (TC), the mass amount of distilled water that produced by distillation equipment (mD), the mass amount of distilled water that produced
by the condenser (mK) and solar energy (G). The results showed the average efficiency and distilled water produced by distillation with condenser in front of the distillation i.e. 0,32 liter/(m2.hour) and efficiency of 32,55%.
