Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the correlation between doctors’ workload and healthcare service quality in the emergency department. The proposed research hypothesis shows that there is negative and significant correlation between doctors’ workload and healthcare service quality in the emergency department. Subjects in this study were 50 doctors and 134 nurses in the emergency department from six hospitals. The data were collected by distributing questionnaires, those are adaptations of NASA-Task Load Index Scale (α = 0,892) and Healthcare Service Quality Scale (α = 0,985). The analysis results showed that the data were normal but not linear. Instead of the data were not linear, hypothesis analysis was still carried out with Pearson Product Moment which requires normality of the data. The analysis showed that doctors’ workload didn’t correlate significantly with doctors’ healthcare service quality (p = 0,289), but those variable have negative correlation even though it is very low (r = -0,080). It can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis is rejected and the nol hypothesis is accepted.
