Abstract
In the current digital era, smartphones have become an integral part of the lifestyle, especially among the younger generation. The use of this gadget is not only limited to communication but has also spread to various sectors, including education. A new phenomenon that has emerged as a consequence of excessive smartphone use is phubbing, also known as gadget addiction. This research aims to explore the impact of phubbing on interpersonal relationships among students in the Catholic Religious Education Study Program (PENDIKKAT) at Sanata Dharma University. The method used is quantitative research with a statistical analysis approach and data collection through questionnaires. This study focuses on assessing the impact of phubbing on the quality of interpersonal relationships among students. Students expressed that the phenomenon of phubbing can affect the quality of interpersonal relationships. The results show that phubbing has the potential to damage intimacy and satisfaction in interpersonal relationships. The implications of this research indicate the importance of students' awareness of the negative impacts of phubbing and the need to limit smartphone use during social interactions.
