Yesus Melampaui Hukum: Kritik terhadap Kekuasaan Agama dan Pembaruan Teologis dalam Yohanes 8:1–11

Abstract

The passage in John 8:1-11 not only presents the story of the forgiveness of a woman caught in adultery, but also displays the tension between law as a means of judgment and mercy as a means of forgiveness. In a situation full of traps of His enemies, Jesus used a strategy that left the crowd confused. In this passage Jesus appears as a theological reformer who uses the law as a means to forgive. Using the narrative analysis method, this research highlights how the narrator of John's Gospel designs plot, characterization, and setting to reveal the power strategy of the scribes and Pharisees in trapping Jesus. The result of this study indicates that Jesus shows how wrongdoing can not only be resolved by law, but can also be resolved by mercy. Jesus emphasized that the Law without compassion would be a killing instrument of punishment.

Abstrak

Perikop dalam Injil Yohanes 8:1–11 tidak hanya menampilkan kisah pengampunan terhadap seorang perempuan yang tertangkap berbuat zinah, tetapi juga menampilkan ketegangan antara hukum yang dipakai sebagai alat penghakiman dan belas kasih sebagai sarana pengampunan. Dalam situasi yang penuh dengan jebakan musuh-Nya, Yesus menggunakan strategi yang membuat orang banyak bingung. Dalam perikop ini Yesus tampil sebagai pembaharu teologis yang menggunakan hukum sebagai sarana untuk mengampuni. Dengan menggunakan metode analisis naratif, penelitian ini menyoroti bagaimana narator Injil Yohanes merancang alur, penokohan, dan setting untuk mengungkap strategi kuasa dari para ahli Taurat dan orang Farisi dalam menjebak Yesus. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa Yesus menunjukkan bagaimana kesalahan tidak hanya bisa diselesaikan dengan hukum, tetapi juga bisa diselesaikan dengan belas kasih. Yesus menegaskan bahwa Hukum tanpa belas kasih akan menjadi alat penghukuman yang membunuh.
